While roaming the Sephora website a couple of days ago I came across the new Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil. When it comes to makeup I am always up to try something a bit different. I am a big lover of the original Smashbox Photo Finish Primer so I wanted to see how this matched up.
I received the primer as a free deluxe sample which was fantastic. I’m not gonna lie I was a bit wary about trying a primer oil because I don’t really like oily skin, and I’m not a fan of having makeup look too dewy. I was pleasantly surprised when I applied it to my skin and then added my foundation (I use Makeup Forever Ultra HD foundation and it’s my absolute favourite). My foundation spread perfectly and despite the fact the the primer was an oil it didn’t look greasy on my skin. It did give me more of a dewy look but it was so slight that you almost don’t know it.
Throughout the Day:
My makeup seemed to be great throughout the day. I had a nice dewy look, and my skin looked moisturized and fresh. When I use the original iconic primer I find sometimes, depending on the other makeup choices I make, my makeup looks a bit chalky (even after using Fix+ spray/setting spray) with the oil I find that it isn’t a problem. The oil really does change the overall look of my makeup.
Application: 10/10 – I like that the oil comes with a dropper applicator (the deluxe version didn’t come with it which kind of sucked) I think the dropper is a great feature for the primer oil.
Wear: 10/10 – My makeup looked great all day and my face never got that oily look to it by the end which is definitely a get thing. I noticed that my smile lines were much less noticeable while wearing this primer (LOVE) in the product description it says that it works to get rid of fine lines and dryness and it definitely I also like that I had a bit of a dewy look while using the primer oil.
Scent: 9/10 – I don’t really think it has an overpowering scent it was pretty light, it has jojoba, arabica and argan oils also chamomile and lavender to relax the skin that being said the scent is very slight. I’m not a fan of lavender so that’s why I didn’t give it a perfect mark.
Price: 7/10 – It’s a bit on the pricey side but it does stay within the normal smashbox pricing. The primer oil sells at Sephora for $49.00 (the price of makeup is usually the part that kills me the most).
