I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day and weekend. This weekend I took my boyfriend, Steve, to Niagara Falls and despite the cold we have a wonderful time. Here are a few highlights from our trip.
Our first stop was Bird Kingdom which, incidentally, had more than just birds. The first room had an assortment of reptiles and I loved it. I’m a sucker for a lizard or python and petting the bearded dragon made my day.
I’ve never heard a Kookaburra before, sang the song a lot as a kid but never knew that a Kookaburra actually laughed. Super cool.
This was the funniest “little” Macaw I’ve ever seen. He was actually quite large, but he loved hanging upside down for visitors as they walked by him. He even posed a little for me.
Amazing colours on the Dart Frog but super poisonous.
We entered the main aviary and I felt like I was in a scene form Indiana Jones. A large waterfall, ancient style paths and towers, plants of all shapes and sizes and birds everywhere.
I got a chance to feed some Australian Lorikeets and got a couple pictures snapped. Also had a bit of a bird brawl happen on my arm. It was interesting in an “I’m laughing nervously because if these birds go crazy I could lose an eye” sort of way.
Next stop, Clifton Hill. It’s pretty much a street that has been turned into a 364 day a year amusement park. I’m pretty sure the Skywheel is made by the same people who made the London Eye. They look pretty similar don’t you think? We spent our time in the Great Canadian Midway and when I say you feel like a kid again…you really do. We played arcade games for hours and I even won a ticket jackpot over 1800 tickets!
We had a beautiful suite at the hilton with a wonderful view of the falls. I couldn’t have smiled bigger when I walked in the door.
And of course my absolute favourite part was getting dressed and putting on my makeup. Kat Von D and Tarte in Bloom were my weapons of choice. I added some sparkle with the Stila Magnificent Metals Eyeshadow in Comex Gold.
Finally, it’s not Valentine’s day without wine, chocolate and strawberries. If you ever need a vacation spot and you’re in Niagara Falls (Canada side), I would definitely recommend staying at the Hilton/Fallsview. They had a beautiful Valentine’s Day package, wonderful service and delicious food.
All in all this was a great break from reality…Now back to class for me 😦
