Hello My Lovely Readers,
A lot of my friends and family ask me what my style is or where I get my clothes. I’m a plus sized girl and I used to find it so difficult to dress my body.
I am blessed with wide hips and a small waist so a majority of my life was spent wearing jeans with belts that would eventually make the crotch of every pair of jeans I had look like I was ruching them or I would get the weird gap in the back of my pants.
Don’t get me wrong most of this stuff still happens but fashion has come a long way and I’m happy to say I have managed to steer myself around popular trends and make them work for me. So here are 3 tips I tell my friends and family to help get them comfortable with shopping for their figure.
So my first tip is actually to ask yourself some questions.
What is it you are trying to camouflage?
What are you trying to flaunt?
What outfit(s) do you absolutely love your body in?
Do you have a favourite style or trend (athletic, boho, romantic, etc)
Everyone is different and finding your style will make it a bit easier to look at things like silhouettes, fabrics, fits, etc. These are pretty essential, knowing these is a huge weight off your shoulders.
I am a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to style but I am a huge lover of boho in the spring and summer and super comfy around fall/winter.
2. Try it on.
My best-friend is the worst for this! She doesn’t like trying things on when she goes shopping. Now with the popularity of online shopping she buys a large amount and has no idea what size she is. We have all probably had to deal with the small, hot poorly lit fitting rooms at a store but tough it out! Every store has a different fit and its good to keep a log of what best suits you in a certain store. This way you can pretty much cancel out in-store shopping (if you aren’t a fan of it) or lessen the stress of shopping. Don’t let the fitting room win!!
3. Don’t be afraid to alter/substitute
We can’t always pull of a look but it doesn’t mean you can’t wear it at all. Or maybe a trend you love needs to be changed to make you feel more comfortable. Don’t be scared! I’m not a huge fan of my legs but I love skirts, rompers and shorts. Things like knee socks, stay-up stockings and sheer stockings have made me more comfortable and confident about wearing these items and now I rock them year round. A lot of my friends ask me how in the world I can wear stockings (i.e how I don’t rip them).
*tip* If you have long nails move slowly when putting the stockings, try to slide more with you finger pads not your nails. Keep you nails straight out it’s gonna look super weird putting them on but then again…look at all the other crazy things we do on a regular basis. It’s the ultimate betrayal when your cute french mani ruins your last pair of sheer stockings so hopefully this tip will help.
Don’t be your worst enemy. Go out and shop! I used to let everyone else tell me what I can and can’t wear and today I’m telling you….WEAR IT ANYWAY! I’m sure you’ll look like a million bucks
